Frequently Asked Questions
How long does an initial evaluation take?
Check in is 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment and your pet will be dropped off for the first 45 minutes. Please plan for a total of 2 hours.
You will receive a tour of the facility before speaking to Dr. Esquivel about her exam findings and plan for your pet.
How do I know how much my pet’s treatments will cost?
During the initial evaluation, Dr. Esquivel will create a treatment plan based on the condition(s) we will be treating, the size of your pet, and how cooperative your pet is during the treatment.
Why is a current Rabies Vaccination required?
Our policy on Rabies vaccines is not one we can make exceptions for, as it is a public health risk. Our policy mirrors that of the state of New Mexico. The state requires a Rabies vaccination be kept up to date for all pets with no exceptions. That unfortunately includes letters from a DVM, medical waivers, or titers.
As far as other vaccines go. We do not require anything other than Rabies be kept up to date, though it’s great when the other are as well.
Why can’t I be with my pet during the Initial or Follow up Evaluation?
We have found that having the owner present greatly distracted the patient and in some cases made the pet less willing to participate or became nervous. This allows our doctor to focus solely on the patient during the evaluation. Since having clients wait outside the room, we have been able to get better measurements for range of motion, stance analysis, and lameness. You are more than welcome to wait in our lobby.
Are all patients allowed to use the Underwater Treadmill?
No, unfortunately there are several conditions that would preclude a patient from using the underwater treadmill.
Patients with fecal and/or urinary incontinence are not allowed in the treadmill. This ensures the cleanliness of the water for our other patients.
Patients with open wounds
Patients with a urinary tract infection
Patients with a heart condition or lung disease will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by Dr. Esquivel.
